THE WAY I SEE - Artist Statement
My art is born out of story—not simply what the eyes can see, but what the heart remembers and what the soul recognizes. Every painting begins, in some way, with a response: to a memory, a place, a face, a feeling, or an ordinary moment that asks me to linger just a little longer.
Much of my work begins with something easily passed by—a window, a shadow, a familiar object, the way light falls across a room. I have learned that when I slow down long enough to truly see, the ordinary often reveals something more. Sometimes it awakens a memory. Sometimes a feeling. And sometimes it becomes a quiet reminder of God’s presence in a place where I might otherwise have passed Him by.
I work in a style of painterly realism, blending clarity with softness and always guided by light. Light is not only a visual element in my work, but a spiritual one—a symbol of presence, peace, hope, and the faith that has carried me through both joy and loss. I am drawn to the fleeting: the things that might disappear if we do not stop to notice them. Through my work, I try to hold those moments a little longer and give permanence to what might otherwise have been missed.
My subjects—whether a quiet landscape, a child’s expression, a familiar place, or a figure caught in reflection—are never simply images to me. They carry stories. Stories of love remembered and wonder rediscovered. Of home and belonging. Of grief carried and hope found again. Of ordinary days that, in hindsight, were anything but ordinary.
Many of my works are deeply personal, shaped by my own memories and experiences, yet I hope there is room within them for someone else’s story, too. I want the person standing before one of my paintings to recognize something of their own life within it—a memory, a longing, a comfort, or perhaps simply the invitation to notice what they might otherwise have overlooked.
Through my art, I seek to create more than beautiful images. I want to create heirlooms of memory and meaning—work that can be lived with, given, remembered, and passed on.
My hope is that what I create will comfort, inspire, and gently turn our attention toward the beauty already around us—and toward the God who is present within every season of our lives.
THE WAY I CREATE - My Artist Style
My work is rooted in realism—faces remain recognizable, places retain their sense of belonging, and the details that matter are carefully preserved. But I am less interested in reproducing exactly what the eye sees than in painting what a moment feels like.
I soften edges, quiet backgrounds, simplify unnecessary detail, and allow portions of an image to gently dissolve into light and atmosphere. Clarity remains where the story needs it; elsewhere, I give the painting room to breathe. The result is a balance between realism and impression—a softness that can feel almost dreamlike, while still remaining familiar and true.
Light plays an essential role in the way I create. I use it not simply to illuminate a subject, but to shape mood, draw attention, create stillness, and sometimes suggest what cannot be expressed in detail. Just as important is what I choose to leave quiet. Negative space, softened edges, muted color, and restraint are all part of the story.
I call this style Whispered Impressionism.
It is intentionally gentle rather than bold, suggestive rather than overly defined. I want my paintings to feel as though they have been remembered rather than merely recorded—lived-in, natural, personal, and comforting.
My paintings are created digitally, using digital brushes and tools as my medium. But the process remains deeply hands-on and artistic. I make the same choices of composition, light, color, texture, brushwork, emphasis, and restraint that shape any painting. Digital painting simply gives me the canvas on which I make those choices.
Ultimately, I want the technique to disappear.
I don't want someone to encounter one of my paintings and first wonder how it was made. I want them to feel something. To recognize something. To remember something.
Perhaps even to notice something they had almost forgotten was there.

For a more substantial presentation, paintings are also available as Fine Art Canvas prints.
Available in square sizes up to 30x30, the artwork is printed on Fine Art Canvas and mounted to a sturdy Masonite substrate rather than stretched as a gallery wrap. This preserves the complete composition and allows the piece to be displayed in a frame of your choosing.

Digital painting has become the medium through which I can most naturally translate what I see and feel into art. It gives me tremendous freedom with light, texture, color and brushwork while allowing me to develop the softness and atmosphere that have become hallmarks of my style. The tools may be digital, but every artistic decision and every brushstroke is intentionally my own.
