MERCY IN THE MOURNING
Grief changes everything.
It reshapes our days, our relationships, and even the way we see the future.
Mercy in the Mourning was created to be a gentle companion along that journey — a place where faith meets grief, and where broken hearts are reminded that they are not alone.
Here, you will find encouragement, Scripture, reflections, and small moments of peace for the days when strength feels hard to find.
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
— Psalm 34:18
MERCY IN THE MOURNING - A Journey I Never Chose
Mercy in the Mourning was born from loss, love, and the deep desire to help others walk through grief with faith and hope.
I have learned that healing does not happen all at once.
It unfolds slowly — through prayer, remembrance, connection, and the quiet assurance that God is still present even in the pain, even through the set-backs, even through the tears.
It can circle back, over and over and over, where you find yourself at the beginning all over again. It's okay. It's normal. You haven't lost ground, you're not just spinning your wheels. Sometimes we have to take a step backwards in order to move two steps forward. This does not mean you have failed. It means you are gaining traction.
My mission here is simple:
- To offer comfort to grieving hearts
- To provide faith-centered encouragement
- To remind others that hope still lives, even in sorrow
- To walk beside those navigating loss
- To help me keep my footing too as I walk the journey
This is not a place of quick answers. It is a place of gentle presence.
A Place Of Rest
If you are grieving, you may feel tired in ways words cannot explain.
Tired of being strong.
Tired of carrying memories that feel both beautiful and heavy.
This space was created for you.
Take a deep breath.
Pause for a moment.
Let your heart rest here.
You do not have to have everything figured out.
You do not have to be okay today.
You only have to take the next step — and trust that God will meet you there.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
— Matthew 11:28
Some Encouragement
Grief does not mean the end of love.
It means love continues — in memory, in longing, and in the quiet ways we carry those we miss within our hearts.
Even in sorrow, God is still writing our stories.
Even in tears, hope is still being planted.
"Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning."
— Psalm 30:5
Meet The Heart Behind Mercy In The Mourning
Where Faith & Grief Walk Hand-In-Hand
Hello and welcome. My name is Vickie, and God has placed me on a road I never expected to travel — a road marked by loss, uncertainty, and seasons that have tested my strength in ways I never imagined.
This has not been an easy journey. There have been valleys that felt endless, days that required more courage than I thought I had, and moments when simply taking the next step felt like the greatest accomplishment.
And truthfully… I am still walking this road.
Mercy in the Mourning was not created because I have figured grief out. It was created because I am learning — day by day — how to keep going, how to hold onto faith when the path feels heavy, and how to carry the torch forward even when my hands and my body feel tired.
If you have found yourself here, perhaps your road has been hard too.
Perhaps you are searching for strength, for understanding, or simply for someone who knows what it feels like to keep moving forward when life has changed forever.
This is not a place that promises quick answers. It is a place of encouragement.
A place to pause, gather strength, and continue the journey — one step at a time. And if your heart is weary, you are welcome to walk beside me.
A Place For Peace
I painted this portrait of Jeff and myself about 6 months after he passed. I wanted a memory piece to hang on my fireplace mantle. It was extremely hard and emotional to paint and took me several months to complete. Now it hangs, comforting, for me to see everyday. Instead of making me cry tears of sadness each time I look at it, it now brings me a lot of peace, smiles, and tears also. It is a beautiful treasure I will cherish forever.
The story behind it is the fact it was my Jeff's favorite place to sit in my parent's front yard. Every time we were there, he would take the opportunity to sit there and look out at the beauty created by God and man too. He found a sense of peace there, and now I get to enjoy alone, but not alone. I feel close to him here.
